Typical Resistor Values

Typical resistor values

Typical resistor values

Below are the common resistor values used in electronic circuit designs. They are the standard E3, E6, E12, E24, E48 and E96 resistor values. The E3 series resistors are the most widely used and hence these values will be the most common resistor values used within the electronics industry.

What is a normal resistance for a resistor?

Most resistors you'll see range between 1 ohm and 1 megaohm (1.0 MΩ) they often have 5% tolerance but you can buy 1% or even 0.1% accuracy resistors.

What are E12 resistor values?

The E12 series has 12 values for each multiple of ten; it is used for resistors with 10% tolerance. The values are 10, 12, 15, 18, 22, 27, 33, 39, 47, 56, 68, 82, then it continues 100, 120, 150 etc.

What is the best resistor tolerance?

Most wirewound resistors are from 1 to 5 percent, while precision wirewounds can achieve ±0.005 percent tolerances. Foil resistors can achieve 0.0005 percent. For most general applications, a resistor with a 5 percent tolerance is adequate.

What are the 4 types of resistors?

Types Of Resistors

  • Thermistors.
  • Varistor Resistors.
  • Photo Resistor or LDR (Light Dependent Resistors)
  • Surface Mount Resistors.

What resistor value do I need?

We'll use the following formula to determine the resistor value: Resistor = (Battery Voltage – LED voltage) / desired LED current. For a typical white LED that requires 10mA, powered by 12V the values are: (12-3.4)/. 010=860 ohms. To use several LEDs in parallel, sum the current values.

Can I use 120 ohm resistor?

The 120 Ohm terminating resistor is setup between pin 2 (CAN low) and pin 7 (CAN high). In general, ISO 11898-2 CAN networks must be terminated at each end using 120 Ohm terminal resistors. Terminal resistors are often required in test setups when CAN nodes have no existing termination.

What is normal wire resistance?

Ideally, the resistance should be 2000 Ω, but due to the existence of a wire, the measured resistance is 2000.01693 Ω, it's less than 10 parts per million higher, nearly undetectable.

What is 470 E resistor?

It has been a standard practice to give the value of resistors in such notations. 470E means a value of 470 raise to the power of 1 which equals to 470 ohms.

Is E12 same as B10?

On most packages for those light bulbs you will not see any mentioning of E12. It will normally just say B10 which is actually just specification of the shape and glass diameter (not the base). B10 with a E12 base. The B10 refers to the glass diameter of a small US candle shape light bulb.

What Colour is a 470 ohm resistor?

470 Ohm 2W High Quality Carbon Film Resistor (CFR) with ±5% Tolerance and Tin Plated Copper Leads. 470 Ohm Resistor Color Code: Yellow, Violet, Brown, Golden.

What does 5% tolerance mean on a resistor?

Tolerance Band Tolerance is the percentage of error in the resistor's resistance, or how much more or less you can expect a resistor's actual measured resistance to be from its stated resistance. A gold tolerance band is 5% tolerance, silver is 10%, and no band at all would mean a 20% tolerance.

Is a 1 or 5 resistor better?

If the tolerance ratings you are referring to is the last color band, then the resistors with the smaller tolerance value is much better… Like for example, a 1% tolerance is preferred than a 5% or 10% , since it is an indication of precision in resistance value..

Is there a perfect resistor?

In practice no resistor is perfect and all resistors have a certain stray capacitance and inductance, resulting in an impedance value different from the nominal resistance value. The resistor materials have a certain temperature coefficient, resulting in a temperature dependency of the resistor value.

What are common resistors?

The most common series are:

  • E6 20% tolerance.
  • E12 10%
  • E24 5% (also available with 1%)
  • E48 2%
  • E96 1%
  • E192 0.5% (also used for resistors with 0.25% and 0.1%).

What are the two most common resistors?

The most common fixed resistors are as follows:

  • Carbon Composition Resistors: This type of resistor is one of the oldest types of components on the market.
  • Wire Wound Resistors: These resistors are constructed with an insulated metal wire wound around a core of non-conductive material like ceramic, plastic, or glass.

Is there a 5 ohm resistor?

Mewutal 5W 5 Ohm Cement Resistor 10PCS Rectangular Resistance for TV, Car, Audio.

What happens if you use too high of a resistor?

When a resistor has been overloaded with voltage exceeding its power rating, the resistor will become very hot to touch, darken considerably and possibly even melt or catch on fire.

What happens if you use the wrong resistor?

Power Dissipated by Resistor - What Can Go Wrong The power rating indicates how much power that resistor can safely dissipate when installed in a circuit. If you exceed the power rating of a resistor, it may get extremely hot. If you continue to increase the current, the power dissipated will also increase.

What resistor do I need to drop 12v to 9v?

12v to 9v converter using resistors as a voltage divider: Components required: One 12v battery, 300-ohm resistor, 1k resistor, some wires.
